The Secret Garden Residential Landscape

The Secret Garden Residential Landscape

The Secret Garden Residential Landscape is an exemplary urban garden design project that masterfully combines classical garden architecture principles with contemporary aesthetic sensibilities, covering an expansive area of 42,300 square meters in Foshan, China. Completed in 2016 by designer Weiling Huang in collaboration with Zoey Chen, this residential landscape draws significant inspiration from Surrealist master Juan Miro's artistic vocabulary, translating abstract artistic elements into a tangible, three-dimensional garden experience. The design's distinctive feature lies in its careful balance between whimsical creativity and classical symmetry, emphasized through a clear central axis that guides visitors through the space while maintaining spatial orientation. The landscape incorporates sophisticated water features throughout, from entrance spring paths to terminal waterfalls, creating a dynamic sensory experience that enhances the garden's natural elements. Notable for its precise control of overall patterns and thoughtful integration of sculptural elements, the garden achieves a harmonious blend of flowers, grass, mountains, and stonework that creates an immersive natural sanctuary within an urban context. The project, which won a Bronze A' Design Award in the Landscape Planning and Garden Design category, represents a significant achievement in modern garden design, particularly in its ability to maintain its original design integrity over years of use while providing urban residents with a much-needed connection to nature. The garden's success lies in its ability to conceal artificial design elements while presenting a seemingly natural environment that offers both aesthetic pleasure and practical functionality, effectively addressing the contemporary need for natural spaces within urban environments.
