The Rules of War Posters is a thought-provoking series of visual communication designs that bridges the principles of International Humanitarian Law with Islamic teachings, created during Ramadan to resonate with Arab and Muslim communities. This innovative graphic design project, conceived and executed by designer Mirna Noaman along with a collaborative team in Cairo, Egypt, employs sophisticated use of negative space to illustrate complex concepts about restraint in armed conflict. The series demonstrates remarkable artistic restraint by avoiding specific colors, shapes, or figures that could be associated with any particular conflict parties, instead achieving its communicative goals through powerful neutral imagery. The posters, measuring 1000 mm x 700 mm, were designed for both digital and print platforms, successfully garnering significant engagement across social media channels while promoting humanitarian values and peaceful coexistence. The project's conceptual foundation emerged from extensive research into the parallels between International Humanitarian Law and Quranic teachings, identifying four key themes that formed the basis of the visual narratives.
