The North Face Westfiled Bondi Junction Retail Store is an innovative retail space design that exemplifies contemporary architectural ingenuity through its distinctive geometric elements and thoughtful spatial organization. Located within a prominent shopping center, this 180-square-meter retail environment features a striking oversized plywood cube positioned at a 45-degree angle at the storefront, serving as both an architectural statement and a functional element housing the sales desk area. The design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, masterfully addresses the challenge of lateral visibility through its deconstructed cubic form, inspired by parametric architecture and mountain landscapes. The space comprises 147 square meters of retail area and 33 square meters of storage, utilizing a minimalist material palette including concrete finishes, white walls, yellow fabric accents, and timber features, all contrasted by a dark charcoal ceiling. The technical innovation is particularly evident in the custom-engineered plywood cube, which required specialized joining techniques to achieve the desired proportions and seamless appearance. The interior flow is enhanced by timber batten ceiling features that guide customers through the space, while frameless glass elements maintain visual transparency. The design successfully integrates natural materials like timber and black slate with modern industrial elements, creating a dialogue between technological advancement and natural elements, while the custom-printed fabric and fitting room configuration pay homage to outdoor equipment aesthetics.
