The New Moment Cafeteria
The New Moment Cafeteria is a transformative interior design project that exemplifies innovative adaptive reuse through the conversion of an abandoned twenty-year-old dormitory into a contemporary corporate dining facility in Taiwan's Hsinchu Science Park. This sophisticated renovation project, designed by Minnie Jan and Daisuke Nagatomo, demonstrates exceptional spatial reconfiguration within a 500-square-meter interior space, earning recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category. The design philosophy centers on creating a harmonious balance between modernization and preservation, incorporating vivid blue accents and green wall elements to inject vitality into the previously dormant structure. The project's execution required meticulous attention to structural integrity and innovative solutions to overcome the challenges presented by the building's extended period of disuse. Through a combination of CNC milling technology for the VIP room ceiling and expert hand carpentry throughout the space, the designers achieved a seamless integration of contemporary aesthetics with practical functionality. The cafeteria's design scheme employs a thoughtful coordination of simple colors and textures, punctuated by strategic use of vibrant elements to create distinctive dining experiences. This project serves as a significant case study in sustainable architecture and interior design, demonstrating the potential for breathing new life into obsolete structures through creative intervention and technical expertise. The successful transformation, completed in 2017, not only provides a comfortable dining environment for corporate users but also stands as a testament to the possibilities of architectural rejuvenation in Taiwan's industrial landscape.
