THE MOOD Lyndhurst Boutique Hotel

THE MOOD Lyndhurst Boutique Hotel is a distinguished 23-story LEED silver-certified architectural masterpiece located in the historic district of Central Hong Kong, exemplifying innovative urban redevelopment and cultural sensitivity in contemporary hospitality design. The structure, which replaced a former 6-story walk-up building on a compact 184-square-meter urban site, represents a harmonious blend of modern architectural elements with traditional Chinese cultural motifs. The building's most striking feature is its sophisticated exterior design, characterized by white organic cellular shapes incorporating seven illuminated flower features, conceptually drawing inspiration from the traditional Chinese Cheongsam dress and the street's historical Chinese name Bai Fa Street (Street Full of Flowers). This architectural narrative extends throughout the hotel's interior design, where different room types symbolically represent various parts of a flower - from seeds to petals - each executed with distinct colors, textures, and materials. The building employs an innovative triple-skin facade system, comprising an inner layer of charcoal grey frames and mullions, a middle layer of grey-tinted glass, and an outer layer of white aluminum cladding with organic cellular patterns. Standing at 85.3 meters with a gross floor area of 2,414 square meters, the hotel caters to international travelers and executives seeking extended stays, offering a unique hospitality experience in Hong Kong's urban core. The project, completed between October 2010 and May 2015, overcame significant technical challenges in creating sculptural elements within strict local building regulations, particularly in the implementation of the illuminated flower features, which required extensive full-scale mock-ups before final execution. This innovative architectural solution, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates exceptional achievement in combining aesthetic appeal with functional efficiency while preserving cultural heritage in a contemporary context.
