The Life Of Riley Residential

The Life Of Riley Residential

The Life of Riley Residential is an award-winning interior design project that exemplifies neo-classical luxury living spaces through its innovative fusion of decorative art and modern aesthetics. Completed in April 2019 in New Taipei City, this residential renovation project, designed by Aric Chang, masterfully transforms an existing structure into a sophisticated living environment that evokes the grandeur of Dubai's hospitality spaces. The design philosophy centers on creating an expansive, open-plan public area that facilitates social gatherings while maintaining discrete private zones through ingenious architectural solutions. The project's distinctive features include large-format Italian stone pattern tiles (1.2m x 2.4m), titanium-plated surfaces, tawny mirrors, and natural shellfish elements that collectively create an atmosphere of refined opulence. A technically complex television wall serves as the design's centerpiece, incorporating marble, metal titanium plating, and glass mirrors, while concealing storage spaces and audio-visual equipment behind hidden doors. The spatial arrangement employs mirror treatments to minimize the visual impact of structural elements and introduces rolling cloud designs that create multi-layered visual interest. The project, which won an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2021, demonstrates exceptional material selection and space utilization, particularly in its treatment of public and private zones through innovative door solutions and sophisticated lighting design. The design's success lies in its ability to reinterpret early 20th-century decorationism through a modern lens, creating ordered chaos through carefully planned line work and harmonious material selection.
