The HK Eye Sculpture Public Art Sculpture

The HK Eye Sculpture Public Art Sculpture is a monumental stainless steel public art installation that stands as a striking representation of Hong Kong's dynamic urban landscape, specifically celebrating the iconic Victoria Harbour skyline. Created by designers Sin Chi Kei, Leung Siu Lun, and Kan Ka Lo, this 2400mm x 2400mm sculptural masterpiece, which earned the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category, is strategically positioned in Tamar Park adjacent to the government headquarters. The sculpture's innovative design features inverted skylines of Hong Kong and Kowloon facing each other in a radial formation, emerging from the center to symbolize the city's vibrant energy and international status. Crafted through a combination of digital fabrication and meticulous handwork using 316 stainless steel, the sculpture presented significant technical challenges in both structural design and fabrication. The inclined form required precise engineering calculations to ensure stability while minimizing foundation depth, while the complex fabrication process involved unfolding radial building pieces into flat surfaces for laser cutting before welding and hand-polishing to achieve a mirror finish. The sculpture's reflective surface creates an interactive dialogue with its environment, encouraging public engagement and photography while metaphorically representing the interconnectedness of different societal elements that make Hong Kong unique. The mirror finish ingeniously reflects the actual skyline onto the sculptural representation, creating a compelling interplay between reality and artistic interpretation.
