The Henley Coffee Shop is an innovative interior design project completed in 2022, representing a unique fusion of space-age aesthetics and contemporary coffee culture in Hong Kong. Located in a former inner-city airport neighborhood, this 250-square-meter establishment features a distinctive spacecraft-inspired entrance that leads visitors through an illuminated narrow corridor into the main coffee bar and seating area. The design, conceptualized and executed by Lok Ping Edwin Chow and team, masterfully addresses the challenges of an irregularly shaped space with varying ceiling heights from 2.4 to 3.0 meters, incorporating a sophisticated material palette including steel, aluminum, concrete, wood, and feature glass. The interior's design philosophy carefully balances hard and soft elements, integrating custom-made lighting, curved architectural elements, and strategic placement of greenery to create an immersive environment that references space tourism while maintaining functional comfort. The circular flow pattern of the space guides customers through a carefully choreographed experience, from the spacecraft-like entrance through to the main service areas, with particular attention paid to the integration of brand elements and merchandise display. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional spatial planning within architectural constraints, successfully merging futuristic design elements with practical hospitality requirements. The sophisticated use of materials in different textures and finishes throughout the ceiling, walls, and flooring creates a cohesive design narrative that elevates the coffee-drinking experience while paying homage to the location's aeronautical heritage.
