The GreenHouse Restaurant and bar is an innovative hospitality design project that exemplifies the harmonious integration of nature within urban architecture, completed in December 2017 in Gurgaon, India. This 400-square-meter establishment, which earned the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design category, represents a sophisticated approach to contemporary restaurant design by creating an oxygen-rich sanctuary within a metropolitan setting. The venue's distinctive feature is its strategic incorporation of carefully selected plants that maximize oxygen generation and air purification, effectively addressing urban pollution concerns. The architectural design seamlessly merges indoor and outdoor spaces through an operable sliding roof on the terrace, accommodating 140 covers while maintaining intimate dining pockets without compromising spatial flow. The material palette reflects a strong connection to nature, incorporating rough-cut stone for the bar counter, stone cladding in brick-tile dimensions, and wooden interior elements. The space is thoughtfully organized into three interconnected zones, beginning with a plant-filled entry foyer that guides guests to either indoor or outdoor seating areas. The design's innovative approach to space utilization creates discrete privacy zones without rigid visual barriers, while the strategic placement of facilities encourages natural exploration of the entire venue. The project, designed by Devesh Bhatia and Pratyay Chakrabarti, demonstrates exceptional attention to environmental consciousness through its research-driven selection of flora, establishing a new paradigm in sustainable hospitality design.
