The Great Indian Kebab Factory Restaurant
The Great Indian Kebab Factory Restaurant is an innovative hospitality design project that masterfully blends contemporary aesthetics with traditional Indian culinary heritage, situated in Sector 26, Chandigarh, India. Completed in December 2017, this 200-square-meter establishment accommodates 120 covers and represents a sophisticated interpretation of modern dining spaces while paying homage to cultural elements. The restaurant's design philosophy centers on creating a harmonious balance between nostalgia and contemporary comfort, featuring distinctive architectural elements such as mosaic flooring with large broken stones and black granite borders, painted MDF ceilings complemented by wooden rafters, and strategic use of exposed mild steel sections. The space is characterized by its striking blue-painted niches that house traditional Indian utensils, creating visual focal points against exposed brick cladding that lends an antiquated charm to the interior. A significant design feature is the live kitchen, which serves as the heart of the dining experience, visible throughout the deliberately unified space. The restaurant's layout incorporates subtle partitioning solutions that maintain privacy while preserving the open atmosphere, with the entry foyer distinguished by specialty glass lights from Firozabad, India. Designed by Devesh Bhatia and Pratyay Chakrabarti, this project earned the Bronze A' Design Award in the Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design category in 2018, recognizing its innovative approach to spatial design and cultural integration. The design successfully addresses the challenge of creating a cohesive dining environment that caters to modern sensibilities while incorporating traditional elements, demonstrated through its thoughtful material selection, strategic space utilization, and attention to atmospheric details.
