The Flow Public Space
The Flow Public Space is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious integration of natural elements within an urban architectural context. Located in Taipei City, Taiwan, this sophisticated public space design draws inspiration from the fluid dynamics of water, incorporating this metaphor throughout its architectural elements to create a seamless flow of movement and visual continuity. The design, conceived by Peng-Hsu Chen, masterfully addresses spatial constraints through intelligent use of materials and reflective surfaces, featuring a distinctive wood grill ceiling with curved, wavy three-dimensional shapes that simulate water flow from the main entrance through to the reception desk, lounge, mailroom, and underground parking areas. The project's environmental consciousness is evident in its material selection, utilizing recyclable materials such as wood and stainless steel, while light-colored walls minimize energy consumption through reduced lighting requirements. The design incorporates ripple-effect stainless corrugated panels on the elevator hall walls and ceiling, creating a dynamic visual representation of moving water. To overcome the building's width limitations, the designer implemented fire-rated glass windows and doors, effectively elongating the space while maintaining security visibility. The project, which won the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional attention to sustainability through its use of locally sourced materials and innovative space optimization techniques. White marble effect ceramic wall tiles and reflective finished surfaces in social areas create an illusion of expanded space, while maintaining functional efficiency and aesthetic appeal.
