The Essence Residence
The Essence Residence is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the transformation of architectural constraints into aesthetic advantages within a residential space. Located in Taiwan and completed in 2020, this sophisticated dwelling showcases a masterful approach to spatial reorganization, particularly in addressing the challenge of a prominent low-hanging beam that crosses the apartment at a height of less than 210 centimeters. The design, conceived by Shih Chieh Kao, employs an ingenious solution by incorporating large zebra wood panels and titanium-plated metal finishes to convert the structural beam into a defining architectural feature. The residence's public sphere has been thoughtfully reconfigured around a multifunctional long table that serves as both living and dining area, promoting family interaction and social cohesion. The design's innovative approach to ceiling treatment involves connecting to the beam through oblique angles and curves, effectively extending the visual perception of height and spatial volume. The interior palette primarily consists of lotus plaster and wooden textures, complemented by strategic light band placement and metallic elements that enhance visual depth and create a refined humanistic atmosphere. The master bedroom demonstrates particular ingenuity through its division into distinct working and sleeping zones using carefully angled grilles that interact with natural light patterns throughout the day. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning project in the Interior Space and Exhibition Design category represents a remarkable achievement in residential interior design, successfully balancing functional requirements with aesthetic excellence while working within budget constraints.
