The Eclipse Residential Apartment
The Eclipse Residential Apartment is an award-winning residential interior design project located in Hsinchu, Taiwan, that masterfully embodies the Japanese aesthetic philosophy of Wabi-Sabi through its thoughtful spatial composition and material selection. Completed in July 2021 by designer Carina Lin, this 82-square-meter apartment represents a sophisticated interpretation of modern living spaces while maintaining deep connections to traditional aesthetic values. The design concept revolves around the metaphorical interplay of light and shadow, inspired by celestial phenomena, where time is transformed into spatial elements through three dimensional aspects of media, energy, and messages. The apartment's distinctive features include innovative use of mineral painting techniques, creating three-dimensional textural surfaces that depart from conventional flat applications, particularly notable in the living room cabinetry. The interior palette employs natural ochre tones complemented by oriental oak flooring, creating an environment reminiscent of a natural cave dwelling. The project demonstrates exceptional sustainability consciousness through its use of locally-sourced recycled wood for furniture pieces, integrating environmental responsibility with design aesthetics. The living space is architecturally distinguished by its curved ceiling, designed to evoke floating clouds and celestial eclipses, with strategically placed seams that filter natural light throughout the interior. This thoughtful manipulation of light and shadow creates a layered spatial experience that transitions between light and dark tones, achieving a natural harmony that earned the project a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2022. The design's success lies in its ability to create a contemplative environment that encourages occupants to reflect on life's essence while experiencing a deep sense of tranquility and inner peace.
