The Civic Square Creative And Experiential Venue
The Civic Square Creative and Experiential Venue is an innovative architectural transformation project that reimagines a semi-outdoor transitional space into a vibrant civic gathering place, distinguished by its sophisticated use of glued-laminated timber beam construction and advanced lighting design. The 1,800-square-meter pavilion-style space exemplifies a harmonious blend of form and function, featuring a two-layered structural system that creates intuitive spatial connections and circulation paths. The design incorporates cutting-edge lighting technology, utilizing LED strip lights with stretched barrisol membrane diffusers that simulate natural skylight, creating an uplifting atmosphere within the deep space. Notable architectural elements include a strategically positioned stage that seamlessly connects to the library space, enlarged hang-out steps adjacent to the natural hillside, and an integrated café area that spills into the main square. The venue's innovative design approach, which earned it a Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design, demonstrates exceptional consideration for sustainability through natural material selection and passive ventilation strategies. The project, completed in 2018, represents a significant advancement in educational facility design, creating a dynamic environment that facilitates various activities from informal gatherings to formal performances, while maintaining a strong connection to its natural surroundings and carefully integrating existing building services.
