The Changer Day and Day Residence is an innovative architectural project completed in 2021 in Hsinchu City, Taiwan, that challenges traditional metropolitan building aesthetics through its bold use of color and distinctive design elements. This residential complex, spanning 3,022 square meters, distinguishes itself from the typically restrained color palette of Taiwanese architecture by featuring a striking white exterior complemented by vibrant balcony frames inspired by traditional Japanese kimono colors. The design, which draws inspiration from Amsterdam's port architecture, incorporates a thoughtful combination of recessed windows and protruded balconies that serve both aesthetic and functional purposes, including natural sun shading and energy efficiency. The building's exterior features self-cleaning tiles that protect against acid rain and environmental pollutants, while its carefully arranged balconies ensure equitable access to seaside views for all residents. The design philosophy integrates Japanese cultural elements through its color scheme, with ice green, barely white, patrinia flower, and arrow feather hues symbolizing different life stages from birth to marriage. The project, which won an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2022, represents a significant departure from conventional residential architecture in Taiwan, featuring an avant-garde approach that contributes to the urban skyline while maintaining a focus on practical living spaces.
