The Black House Housing is an architecturally distinctive residential project located near Ammersee, Bavaria, Germany, exemplifying contemporary sustainable design principles through its innovative use of materials and spatial composition. This award-winning structure, designed by Fabian A. Wagner and team, occupies an 80 square meter plot adjacent to a larger family residence while maintaining its independent architectural identity. The building's most striking feature is its carbonized wood facade, which creates a bold visual statement while providing natural weather resistance. The design employs a sophisticated stacking of rooms at varying heights, creating dynamic spatial relationships throughout its 75 square meter built area. The interior design philosophy emphasizes natural materials, featuring untreated, oiled oak for all fittings including the kitchen, stairs, cupboards, and doors, complemented by sandblasted concrete walls that add textural contrast. The spatial arrangement is thoughtfully organized, with the basement level housing a bedroom and open bathroom concept, while the ground floor features an open-plan kitchen and dining area that seamlessly connects to the outdoor environment through large pivot glass walls, offering views of the neighboring forest and stream. This integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, combined with the careful material selection and sustainable design approach, earned the project a Golden A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, recognizing its excellence in innovative space utilization, environmental consciousness, and architectural creativity.
