The Axis Of Space Time Turning Residential Apartment

The Axis Of Space Time Turning Residential Apartment

The Axis of Space Time Turning Residential Apartment is an innovative residential interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious integration of Eastern philosophy with Western design elements, created by designer Chien-Neng Chang and Yu-Ying Sun. This 126-square-meter living space, completed in March 2019 in Taichung, Taiwan, represents a sophisticated approach to multi-generational living, centered around the concept of round capacity as its fundamental design principle. The project's distinctive feature lies in its revolutionary spatial configuration, where the dining room serves as the primary focal point, featuring a round table that metaphorically functions as the central gear of a clock, symbolizing the cyclical nature of family life and temporal movement. The design masterfully addresses structural challenges by incorporating curved walls and ceilings, transforming potential constraints into aesthetic advantages. Notable elements include a sophisticated TV wall with marble curved surfaces that seamlessly integrate a study space, while bringing exterior views into the interior landscape. The private areas are accessed through an ingeniously designed corridor with bilateral circular walls, reminiscent of an hourglass, creating a fluid transition between spaces. The children's room features a unique semicircular pendant ceiling design combined with custom storage solutions, establishing a castle-like atmosphere that prioritizes both creativity and safety. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design, demonstrates exceptional attention to material selection, incorporating white steel with wooden finishes and gold-lacquered iron elements that reflect French elegance while maintaining Eastern design sensibilities. The innovative use of space, particularly evident in the integration of a long-form couch with French windows, maximizes functionality while ensuring optimal natural lighting and seating arrangements.
