The Artistic Residence Interior Design

The Artistic Residence Interior Design

The Artistic Residence Interior Design is an exemplary residential interior design project that masterfully integrates traditional Asian aesthetics with contemporary design principles, completed in 2015 in Taichung City. This sophisticated design intervention, created by Po-Cheng Chu, Ya-Yi Tsai, and Ying-Yu Chen, spans 212 square meters and is distinguished by its innovative interpretation of ink painting aesthetics within a modern living space. The design's centerpiece features a rectangular main wall adorned with an abstract representation of ink, presenting a dry, realistic texture that evokes the timeless quality of traditional ink paintings. The spatial composition demonstrates exceptional attention to material selection, incorporating dark hand-scraped wood flooring and weathered white oak veneer that creates an immersive forest-like atmosphere. The design's sophisticated approach to lighting includes a notable light-black ceiling curtain that conceptually represents rock, while indirect lighting creates an ethereal sky light effect, drawing inspiration from classical Chinese poetry. The integration of natural elements is particularly noteworthy, with strategically placed phalaenopsis pots along corridors reflected in black mirrors to create multiple visual dimensions, while grass elements between the living and dressing rooms effectively blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. This thoughtfully executed design, which earned recognition at the A' Design Award competition, successfully creates a scholarly retreat that balances artistic expression with functional living space, incorporating wall plates at varying angles to showcase modern craftsmanship while maintaining strong connections to oriental aesthetic philosophy.
