Tenement H Modular Cabinet is an innovative furniture design that exemplifies the intersection of cultural architecture and contemporary storage solutions, drawing inspiration from the distinctive shophouse facades of Bangkok, Thailand. This experimental modular storage system, created by designer Pimploy Sabchareon in collaboration with Naphisa Suphanunthorn and Janissa Triyangkulsri, represents a sophisticated interpretation of urban architectural elements translated into functional furniture. The cabinet system, measuring 1200 x 400 x 1350 millimeters, is crafted from lightweight yet durable aluminum, featuring customizable barriers that incorporate various traditional architectural elements such as scissor gates, accordion doors, shutters, and railings. Its versatile design allows access from multiple sides, enabling the piece to function both as storage and as a semi-partition element within spaces. The modular nature of the system permits vertical stacking and horizontal expansion, adapting to diverse spatial requirements while maintaining its aesthetic integrity. This design, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, demonstrates exceptional innovation in its approach to combining practical storage solutions with cultural elements. The project, developed between October 2020 and February 2021, emerged from extensive research into Bangkok's urban landscape and represents a thoughtful exploration of how everyday architectural elements can be reimagined in domestic furniture design.
