Tau Lam Hong Residential House

Tau Lam Hong Residential House

Tau Lam Hong Residential House is an exemplary residential interior design project located in Tainan City, Taiwan, that masterfully integrates traditional Southern Taiwanese architectural elements with contemporary living spaces. The name Tau Lam Hong, meaning soaked in the southern breeze in Taiwanese, perfectly encapsulates the project's cultural essence and design philosophy. Completed in February 2018, this 397-square-meter residence features a sophisticated ceiling design that creates a visual illusion of a duplex, paying homage to traditional Southern Taiwanese residential architecture. The interior space is distinguished by its thoughtful incorporation of ceramic red trim in the living room, decorative window grills that reflect iconic Tainan attributes, and an innovative approach to natural light distribution throughout the space. A notable aspect of this project is its collaborative nature, with 60% of the design executed by professional designers and 40% reserved for the owners' personal expression, particularly evident in the custom wooden furniture handcrafted by the owner using traditional mortise and tenon techniques. The design seamlessly integrates washed pebbles, real woods, and carefully selected natural materials that enhance with age and human interaction. The kitchen area, featuring architectural concrete and strategic flooring, creates a semi-open balcony atmosphere with views of the historic Anping Harbor. This Silver A' Design Award-winning project in the Interior Space and Exhibition Design category stands out for its successful marriage of cultural preservation and modern functionality, incorporating unique elements such as a SGCC pole in the walk-in closet that serves as a growth chart for the family's children, marking both physical and temporal dimensions of the living space.
