TARDIS Lamp
TARDIS Lamp is an innovative lighting fixture that explores the intersection of human perception and dimensional aesthetics, designed by Brazilian architect Camila Silva. This conceptual lighting design, which earned the Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, draws inspiration from the physiological phenomenon of pupil dilation and its connection to heightened sensory experiences. The lamp's distinctive design features a series of overlapping rectangular forms crafted from transparent acrylic material, creating a sophisticated interplay of light and transparency that symbolizes the expansion of consciousness and multi-dimensional perception. The structure consists of two primary components: a smaller unit measuring 200mm x 80mm x 240mm and a larger unit measuring 240mm x 80mm x 320mm, which work in harmony to create a visual narrative of spatial and temporal transition. The successive layering of transparent elements generates an optical effect that mirrors the dilation of the human eye's pupil, while simultaneously paying homage to the concept of dimensional travel popularized in science fiction. The design's philosophical underpinning explores how certain human experiences can transcend ordinary spatial and temporal boundaries, particularly through visual perception, which serves as our primary interface with reality. The lamp's innovative approach to lighting design not only serves its functional purpose but also creates an immersive atmospheric experience that encourages contemplation of the relationship between light, space, and human consciousness.
