Tangram Sugar Package

Tangram Sugar Package

Tangram Sugar package is an innovative sustainable packaging design solution that addresses the common issue of sugar waste in coffee establishments. Created by designers Yi Lu, Feng Zhao, and Zhibo Hou, this environmentally conscious design draws inspiration from the traditional Chinese educational toy, the tangram, incorporating its geometric principles into a functional packaging solution. The package, measuring 60mm in width, 60mm in height, and 5mm in depth, is crafted from plant fiber paper and features a distinctive diagonal line that enables users to divide the package into two equal triangular portions. This ingenious design allows consumers to either use the entire package or separate it into two parts, providing flexibility in sugar portion control and reducing unnecessary waste. The project, developed between October 2016 and February 2017 in Shenyang, represents a significant advancement in sustainable packaging design by addressing both environmental and practical concerns. The design's emphasis on waste reduction and user convenience earned it the Silver A' Design Award in the Sustainable Products, Projects and Green Design category, recognizing its contribution to environmental sustainability and innovative approach to everyday product design. The package's dual-use functionality not only promotes resource conservation but also introduces a new paradigm in single-serving sugar packaging, demonstrating how thoughtful design can influence consumer behavior and contribute to environmental protection through practical, everyday solutions.
