Taipei Medical University Hospital Medical Institutions

Taipei Medical University Hospital Medical Institutions is a transformative healthcare facility redesign project that exemplifies the evolution of modern medical spaces through innovative interior architecture and smart healthcare integration. The comprehensive renovation, completed in 2018, encompasses 595.044 square meters and represents a paradigm shift in healthcare environment design, incorporating biophilic elements and patient-centric spatial solutions. The design concept draws inspiration from the metamorphosis of butterflies, symbolizing transformation and hope, manifested through flowing curved sequences and organic forms that soften the traditional angular hospital architecture. The space is strategically divided into three distinct zones, each characterized by its own thematic color - green for the main heightened lobby entrance, orange for the second entrance, and blue for the traditional medicine outpatient area. Notable design innovations include the replacement of conventional glass railings with textured metal grilles, the installation of titanium-plated butterfly-inspired ceiling installations with LED color-changing capabilities, and the integration of continuous curved seating arrangements reminiscent of luxury hotel lobbies. The project, which won the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, successfully overcame significant logistical challenges by executing construction during limited weekend hours to maintain uninterrupted hospital operations. The design's emphasis on creating a more humane and welcoming environment is achieved through careful material selection, innovative lighting solutions including nature-themed ceiling panels, and thoughtful space planning that promotes efficient patient flow while maintaining a sense of comfort and tranquility.
