Sven's Island Personal care is an innovative packaging design project that exemplifies the harmonious blend of natural product origins with contemporary aesthetic sensibilities. This comprehensive personal care product line, originating from the pristine wilderness of Great Barrier Island in the Hauraki Gulf, showcases a distinctive approach to packaging design that celebrates the unique properties of Manuka and Kanuka oils native to the region. The design solution, developed under the creative direction of Angela Spindler, features collaboratively created artwork by New York artist Danielle Laurenti, whose playful illustrations capture the essence of the island's natural beauty. The packaging system utilizes traditional tin containers, paying homage to historical packaging methods while meeting modern functionality requirements. The labels are printed on pearlescent plastic self-adhesive stock using CMYK with spot gloss UV varnish, achieving superior reproduction of delicate watercolor illustrations through digital printing technology. The product range includes precisely dimensioned containers for Hand Guard (78mm x 78mm), Barefoot Balsam (78mm x 78mm), Miracle Manuka (63mm x 63mm), and Lip Balmy (38mm x 38mm). The design's excellence was recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category in 2016, acknowledging its innovative approach to combining functionality with aesthetic appeal. The project, executed between April 2014 and January 2015, successfully overcame budget constraints through creative solutions while maintaining premium quality and visual appeal, demonstrating exceptional problem-solving in packaging design.
