Sunnest Table Lamp

Sunnest Table Lamp

Sunnest Table Lamp is an innovative bedside lighting solution designed by King Him Ho that uniquely addresses contemporary sleep-related stress issues through biomimetic design principles. This sophisticated lighting fixture, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, incorporates an ingenious iris shutter mechanism inspired by camera lens technology to simulate the natural phenomenon of sunset. The lamp's primary distinguishing feature is its interactive dimming system, where users can rotate the top cloudy plastic component in an anticlockwise direction to gradually reduce the light projection on walls or ceilings, creating a calming transition to darkness that mirrors natural light patterns. Standing at 155mm in height with a 96mm diameter, the lamp combines traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, featuring a lathe-turned wooden body and 3D-printed components including six precision-engineered shutter blades and two shutter bases. The integration of Arduino-controlled breathing light functionality further enhances the lamp's therapeutic qualities, while its T-shaped top design ensures intuitive user interaction. This thoughtfully engineered lighting solution emerged from comprehensive research into sleep quality issues, particularly addressing the needs of young adults in Hong Kong who face significant stress-related sleep difficulties, as evidenced by the 2018 Cigna Corporation study. The design's emphasis on gradual light reduction, coupled with its sophisticated mechanical operation, represents a harmonious blend of functional innovation and psychological consideration in contemporary lighting design.
