Summer Solstice

The summer solstice marks the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, and the shortest day in the southern hemisphere. It is the first day of summer, and marks a time of transition for the planet. This time of year is a reminder of the importance of light and heat in our lives, as we seek to maximize the potential of both during this period. On the summer solstice, the sun is directly overhead at the tropic of cancer, and this is the point where the sun is at its highest point in the sky. This leads to the longest day of the year, with 15 hours and 3 minutes of daylight in the northern hemisphere. The summer solstice also signifies a change in the seasons, and so architects and interior designers take this opportunity to consider the function of their spaces, and how they can be adapted to accommodate these seasonal changes.
