Strata Naha Hotel

Strata Naha Hotel is an innovative urban resort hotel located in the heart of Naha City, Okinawa, Japan, that masterfully integrates local cultural heritage with contemporary design sensibilities. The fifteen-story reinforced concrete structure, spanning approximately 8,040 square meters and rising 50 meters in height, houses 221 guest rooms and represents a sophisticated interpretation of Okinawan architectural traditions. The name Strata draws inspiration from geological layers, symbolizing the rich historical and cultural stratification of the region, particularly significant as the site was submerged underwater approximately 500 years ago and bordered an ancient forest that once existed as an island. The architectural design incorporates traditional materials such as Ryukyu limestone, red roof tiles, and locally sourced mud, while achieving a modern aesthetic expression. The building's distinctive facade features color-graduated plastered walls that reflect the local geological composition, and its innovative louver system, inspired by traditional textile patterns, creates dynamic visual effects through changing light conditions. The interior design showcases collaborations with local artisans, featuring traditional crafts such as Shuri textiles, Bingata dyeing, Yachimun pottery, and Ryukyu glass, seamlessly integrated into a contemporary setting. The project, which was completed in April 2020 and subsequently honored with the Golden A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional achievement in combining cultural preservation with modern hospitality design, while contributing to local community engagement through its ground-floor restaurant and strategic location near the Miebashi monorail station.
