SQ55 Radio Frequency Identification Device
SQ55 Radio Frequency Identification Device is an innovative handheld radio frequency identification scanner designed specifically for retail environments, with particular attention to ergonomics and female users' needs. Developed by designers Ming-Iung Chen and Wenke Zhang, this sophisticated device represents a significant advancement in retail scanning technology, drawing inspiration from the elegant curvature of a swan's neck to create a more refined and user-friendly form factor. The device's dimensions of 82x162x117 millimeters make it notably more compact than traditional RFID scanners, while its technical capabilities include the ability to scan up to 200 items simultaneously from a considerable distance and store up to 59,000 entries in its memory. Distinguished by its thoughtful design approach, the device features an aluminum alloy heat sink with anodized treatment for optimal thermal management, while the upper housing incorporates an as-mold leather texture and the lower housing features a metallic lacquer finish. The device's innovative features include automatic data preservation during power loss and Bluetooth connectivity for seamless mobile device integration. The development process, which spanned from June 2017 to April 2018, involved extensive prototyping and testing to achieve optimal weight distribution and user comfort. This groundbreaking design earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Digital and Electronic Device Design category, acknowledging its contribution to advancing retail technology through user-centered design principles. The device's applications extend beyond retail to various sectors including logistics, personnel identification, access control, anti-counterfeiting, and asset management systems.
