Spirited Home Cinema is an innovative interior design project that reimagines the traditional cinema experience through a profound connection to nature, specifically drawing inspiration from Japanese animated films and forest landscapes. Created by designers CM Jao and Ken Cheung, this Silver A' Design Award-winning entertainment space transforms the conventional movie theater into an immersive environment that captures the essence of a mystical forest. The design features a central Sacred Tree in the lobby, realized through an intricate ceiling installation with swirling curves that represent tree growth rings, complemented by mirrored surfaces depicting dewdrops on leaves. The space employs a sophisticated material palette including copper mirrored stainless steel strips, aluminum strips with wood patterns, and strategic lighting to create the ambiance of sunlight filtering through a forest canopy. The cinema complex is divided into two distinct viewing environments: the Standard House, which embodies the characteristics of a waterfall through greyish blue and green color schemes with cascading patterns, and the LUXE House, which represents a moss-covered gorge with rich dark greens and purple-blue tones. The transitional spaces, including the entrance pathway and lavatories, maintain the forest theme through wooden strips, marble finishes, and carefully integrated lighting that guides visitors through what feels like a natural woodland trail. This award-winning design, recognized in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category at the A' Design Award Competition, demonstrates exceptional innovation in spatial design, successfully merging entertainment architecture with biophilic design principles to create a uniquely atmospheric cinema experience.
