Spirit Of Stillness Apartment

Spirit Of Stillness Apartment

Spirit of Stillness Apartment is an award-winning residential interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious integration of Eastern philosophy with contemporary living spaces. Located in Taipei City, Taiwan, this 120-square-meter apartment, designed by Chewen Chou and Hsaio Yin Lin, represents a sophisticated approach to creating an urban sanctuary through its innovative tripartite philosophy called SPIRIT, which equally balances work, recreation, and rest. The design's centerpiece features a meticulously crafted art wall incorporating recycled stone fragments and environmentally conscious Italian paints, creating a scenic landscape that serves as both an aesthetic focal point and a testament to sustainable design practices. The space is distinguished by its thoughtful integration of a 30-kilogram Bodhisattva sculpture, supported by concealed metal elements, while energy-efficient LED lighting systems and thermal insulating materials enhance the apartment's functionality and comfort. Drawing inspiration from Su Shi's Ding Feng Bo, the design successfully merges traditional Eastern contemplative elements with modern aesthetics, creating a peaceful refuge within an urban context. The project, completed in 2023, showcases exceptional attention to environmental sustainability through its material selection and implementation, while maintaining high aesthetic standards that earned it the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category. The design's success lies in its ability to overcome the challenging balance between Eastern and Western aesthetics, sustainability and luxury, and tradition and innovation, resulting in a space that promotes both physical comfort and spiritual well-being through its thoughtful arrangement of space, optimal natural light utilization, and integration of air-purifying green plants.
