Space Lamp

Space Lamp

Space Lamp is an innovative lighting fixture that exemplifies the convergence of astronomical aesthetics and functional illumination, designed by the creative team of Guofeng Hu, Yi Zhao, and Jun Wang. This post-modernist lighting solution comprises three primary components: a table lamp base, a spherical lampshade, and an OLED lamp body, measuring 300mm × 300mm × 600mm. The design's distinctive feature lies in its spherical lampshade, which mimics the textured surface of celestial bodies, created through sophisticated glass blowing technology that ensures each piece possesses unique surface characteristics due to varying material densities. The lamp employs a dual lighting mechanism: direct illumination through the sphere's aperture and a subtle, diffused glow through the lampshade's irregular translucent texture, creating an atmospheric interplay of light and shadow. Developed between July and October 2022, this lighting fixture serves both as a functional illumination source and an artistic space decoration, embodying the mysterious beauty of the cosmos through its irregular patterns and chromatic variations. The design's innovative approach to combining practical lighting with celestial aesthetics earned it the Iron A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, recognizing its contribution to contemporary lighting design. The lamp's ability to create a serene, contemplative atmosphere while maintaining functional efficiency demonstrates its success in addressing both aesthetic and practical considerations in modern lighting design.
