Sozo Japanese Cuisin Restaurant

Sozo Japanese Cuisin Restaurant

Sozo Japanese Cuisin Restaurant is an innovative architectural and interior design project that masterfully bridges Japanese and Chinese cultural aesthetics, completed in 2016 in Chengdu, China. This sophisticated dining establishment, spanning 722 square meters (19m x 38m x 3.5m), exemplifies a harmonious fusion of traditional Japanese design principles with contemporary spatial concepts. The restaurant's design philosophy centers on the profound notion that true retreat exists within the world itself, manifested through its understated yet elegant storefront that opens into a transformative dining environment. The interior space employs a carefully curated selection of materials including concrete, black iron, galvanized iron, and gray glass, complemented by traditional ukiyo-e paintings and simulated stone finishes. The design creates a multi-layered spatial experience through the strategic placement of shapely stones, rock gardens, and transparent screens adorned with Chinese ink paintings, establishing a unique dialogue between two distinct cultural perspectives on landscape appreciation. The seating area's innovative design envelops diners in carefully crafted mountain scenery, utilizing various materials' inherent properties - including grain, height, color tone, and visual transparency - to create depth without explicit landscape representations. This Silver A' Design Award-winning project in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category demonstrates exceptional achievement in combining primitive, unpolished materials with traditional Japanese symbolism, creating an atmosphere that transcends typical commercial dining spaces while maintaining functional excellence.
