South China Book Festival Exhibition
South China Book Festival Exhibition is a significant cultural and architectural achievement in exhibition design, representing an innovative approach to creating an immersive reading environment through thoughtful spatial organization and symbolic elements. This large-scale exhibition, covering 9,050 square meters, demonstrates a sophisticated integration of traditional Chinese architectural principles with contemporary design sensibilities, drawing inspiration from Ernst H. Gombrich's The Sense of Order and the cultural heritage of Canton. The design, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Trade Show Architecture category, employs a systematic approach based on the traditional Chen's Lineage Hall prototype, featuring Three entrances and five rooms that create clear spatial circulation patterns. The exhibition's distinctive feature lies in its thematic organization, incorporating six different colored flowers corresponding to various YUE elements, which symbolize the evolution of urban reading culture from past to present. The design team, led by Muchuan Xu, Junjie Li, and Dongxi He, successfully addressed the challenge of creating a meaningful and hierarchical space within a compressed one-month preparation timeline, implementing sustainable design principles through the use of recyclable modeling devices and digital interactive experiences. The exhibition's innovative approach combines physical and virtual elements, creating an environmentally conscious alternative to traditional book fairs while maintaining cultural significance and public accessibility. The space's visual transparency and internal connectivity contribute to a unified spatial rhythm, enhanced by strategically placed sensory experience nodes throughout the venue, making it a noteworthy example of how exhibition design can effectively balance cultural preservation with technological advancement.
