Soundscapes

Soundscapes, is a term derived from aesthetics and sound design, with a paramount importance in the evolution of our technological landscape. To locate its origin, one must look for the roots of the term. The etymological evolution of this term is due to the fusion between the English noun 'sound' and the Latin suffix 'scape', which can be respectively defined as ' the vibrating disturbance of a medium (air, water, etc.), which can be perceived by the ear, or any sound heard or uttered' and 'formed by a particular combination of features', respectively. Therefore, Soundscapes is a compound word, which is a combination of two words into one, with the intention to communicate a concept that combines two or more elements into one new. This term has a morphological evolution in which it follows the phonological rules of the English language, and that is why we don't write it as 'soundskapes'. Through its historical evolution, this term was used to refer to the effects of technology on auditory perception. The morphological construction of the term has an important role pragmatically, as it defines the relationship between the words 'sound' and 'scape' and allows us to understand the meaning of the expression and its implications.
