Sock Garters
Sock garters are elastic bands worn around the calf to keep socks from sagging or slipping down the leg. They were popularized in the early 20th century as an essential accessory for men's fashion, particularly for formal wear. The sock garter consists of two adjustable bands that wrap around the leg, with one band placed just below the knee and the other just above the calf muscle. The bands are connected by a small clip or button, which holds the sock in place. Sock garters were initially designed for practical purposes, as men's socks were often made of thick materials that tended to sag or bunch up around the ankle. However, they soon became a fashion statement, with different colors and styles available to match various outfits. Sock garters were particularly popular during the 1920s and 1930s, when men's fashion emphasized a sleek, streamlined silhouette. While sock garters fell out of fashion in the mid-20th century, they have recently experienced a resurgence in popularity as a vintage accessory. Today, they are often worn by men who appreciate the classic style of a well-tailored suit or who prefer the comfort and support of a garter over traditional sock styles.
