Snap Gauges
Snap gauges, also known as snap gauges or snap ring gauges, are precision measuring tools used to measure the diameter of cylindrical objects. They are commonly used in manufacturing and quality control processes to ensure that machined parts meet specified tolerances. A snap gauge consists of two anvils or jaws, one fixed and one movable, that are designed to snap into place around the object being measured. The movable jaw is adjusted to the nominal size of the part, while the fixed jaw is set to the maximum allowable size. When the snap gauge is closed around the part, the movable jaw will either snap into place or not, indicating whether the part is within tolerance or not. Snap gauges are available in a variety of shapes and sizes to accommodate different types of parts, including cylindrical parts with internal or external diameters, as well as parts with grooves or shoulders. They can be made from a variety of materials, including steel, tungsten carbide, and ceramic, depending on the application and the level of precision required. While snap gauges are relatively simple and easy to use, they require a skilled operator to ensure accurate measurements. They are often used in conjunction with other measuring tools, such as micrometers and dial indicators, to verify measurements and ensure that parts are within tolerance.
