Smile Coffee Coffee Shop

Smile Coffee Coffee Shop

Smile Coffee Coffee Shop is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of Danish Hygge philosophy with contemporary coffee shop aesthetics, completed in Taichung City in 2016. This Silver A' Design Award-winning establishment, designed by Bryan Chang, masterfully transforms a bustling urban location into a serene sanctuary through thoughtful architectural interventions and sophisticated design elements. The space is characterized by its distinctive three-level layout, connected by carefully positioned staircases that create a fluid spatial narrative. The design's cornerstone features include a U-shaped bar that promotes communal interaction, a penetrating glass compartment that serves as a transitional space, and an expertly crafted platform loft connected to the second-floor dining area. The interior showcases a refined material palette, incorporating recycled wood, cement textures, and Prussian blue accents that reflect the brand's identity. Notable architectural elements include a hollow high-ceiling pattern, oblique splice wood plates that add visual depth, and strategic implementation of both natural and artificial lighting systems, including distinctive annular candle-shaped fixtures on the second floor. The exterior design integrates abundant greenery with wood grain fair-faced concrete walls, while the interior maintains original architectural elements such as hand-ground brick textures, demonstrating a commitment to authenticity and sustainability. This sophisticated coffee shop, recognized by the A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, successfully creates an environment that embodies the essence of Hygge - a Danish concept of coziness and comfortable conviviality - while maintaining a professional and contemporary aesthetic that caters to modern urban lifestyles.
