Smile Business Card Holder

Smile Business Card Holder

Smile Business card holder is an innovative and interactive accessory designed by Finnish architect and designer Ari Korolainen, representing a thoughtful evolution in business card presentation devices. This sophisticated holder, crafted from recycled leather, seamlessly combines functional elegance with playful interaction through its unique pop-up mechanism activated by pulling a band. The design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Fashion and Travel Accessories Design category, emerged from a careful consideration of Japanese business culture, where business card exchanges hold particular significance. The holder's dimensions of 60 mm x 10 mm x 93 mm accommodate standard business cards while maintaining a slim, portable profile. Its minimalist aesthetic adheres to the less is more principle, while incorporating an element of surprise through its innovative opening mechanism. The design process, initiated in 2012 in Lahti, Finland, and refined until its completion in 2014, focused on creating a practical yet engaging solution for professional card presentation. The holder features a snap fastener closure system and is available in various colors, from classic black and white to vibrant alternatives. Beyond its primary function, the holder serves as an effective icebreaker in professional settings, transforming the conventional business card exchange into a memorable interaction that often elicits positive responses, as validated through international user testing.
