Smell The Flower Coffee Equipment

Smell the Flower Coffee Equipment is an innovative series of poetic pour-over coffee measuring instruments that transforms the traditional coffee preparation process into an artistic ritual, drawing inspiration from Japanese tea ceremonies and flower arrangement traditions. The collection, designed by Forn Woei Koong and recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category, comprises two primary components: a uniquely designed scale and thermometer that elevate the coffee-making experience through their aesthetic and functional properties. The scale, conceived as a metaphorical flower arrangement, features weights crafted in the shape of leaves (1g) and fruits (2g) that users place on branches to measure coffee beans, creating a visual composition reminiscent of decorating a vase. The thermometer component is engineered in the form of a flower, with rotating petals that indicate temperature through their blooming motion, where each petal represents 10 degrees. The equipment's body is crafted from ceramic material with a hand-worn finish, while the weighing pan utilizes spin-forged red copper, and the thermometer incorporates laser-cut aluminum and mold-pressed acrylic sheets. This sophisticated fusion of functionality and aesthetics aims to transform rational procedures into sensuous experiences, where Coffee Beans Weighing becomes Flower Arranging and Reading Thermometer evolves into Seeing the Blossom. The design's implementation required extensive calibration to ensure mechanical accuracy while maintaining its artistic integrity, resulting in a harmonious blend of precision and poetic expression that enhances the ritualistic aspects of pour-over coffee preparation.
