Smart Objects

Smart Objects is a feature in Adobe Photoshop that allows users to embed raster or vector content into a Photoshop document while preserving the original characteristics and editability of the embedded content. When a graphic element, such as an illustration, logo, or photograph, is converted into a Smart Object, it retains its source content, enabling non-destructive scaling, rotating, and transforming without losing image quality. This means that a Smart Object can be resized, warped, or have its perspective altered without pixelation or degradation of the original content. Moreover, Smart Objects maintain their link to the original file, so any changes made to the source file will be automatically updated in the Photoshop document. This dynamic linking streamlines workflow and ensures consistency across designs. Smart Objects also support the application of smart filters, which allow for non-destructive filter effects that can be adjusted, turned off, or removed at any time without altering the original content. This flexibility encourages experimentation and iteration in the design process. Additionally, multiple instances of a Smart Object can be created within a document, with each instance reflecting any changes made to the original Smart Object, thus ensuring cohesion and efficiency in complex compositions.
