Slow Living Residence

Slow Living Residence is an innovative residential interior design project that reimagines traditional Taiwanese living spaces through a contemporary lens, emphasizing open-plan connectivity and mindful living. Created by designer Sung Po Lin, this 460-square-meter residence represents a significant departure from conventional spatial arrangements by integrating living room, dining area, kitchen, and study into a cohesive, flowing domain that promotes family interaction and personal well-being. The design philosophy embraces modern light-classicism, incorporating simplified linear elements, symmetrical aesthetics, and premium materials such as Black Sandalwood Veneer and titanium-plating to create a sophisticated living environment. Distinguished by its architectural approach to space demarcation, the residence utilizes structural elements and arches to maintain visual continuity while subtly defining different functional zones. The project, completed in 2017 in New Taipei City, Taiwan, showcases innovative solutions for contemporary urban living challenges, particularly addressing the need for both social interaction and personal retreat spaces. Notable features include an enlarged light meal area, three bedroom suites, an open island-bench, and thoughtfully designed meditation spaces that cater to multiple generations. The design's excellence was recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its contribution to residential design innovation. The project's success lies in its careful balance of open-plan living with privacy considerations, achieved through sophisticated material selection and spatial planning that creates a harmonious flow between public and private domains.
