Skyboat Cafe And WalkOn Glass

Skyboat Cafe and WalkOn Glass is an innovative architectural marvel and structural engineering achievement that demonstrates exceptional design ingenuity in its integration with challenging topographical conditions. This remarkable two-story structure, completed in 2019, features a dramatic 36-meter cantilever extending over a 613-meter deep sinkhole, embodying a perfect synthesis of architectural aesthetics and engineering precision. The design draws inspiration from the graceful form of a goose and the mechanical principles of tumbler toys, utilizing a sophisticated self-balancing system that maintains structural stability through strategic weight distribution and minimal ground contact. The building encompasses 495 square meters of construction area across its 10-meter by 80-meter footprint, incorporating hotel accommodations on the ground floor, a café on the first floor, and a spectacular roof viewing platform featuring a 10-meter by 12.5-meter walk-on glass floor. The structure's engineering brilliance is evident in its unique support system, which employs only five contact points to minimize environmental impact on local vegetation, while innovative inclining struts at both ends provide crucial stabilizing forces to the mountain ridge. The construction process utilized advanced hanging falsework techniques to protect the surrounding ecosystem, and the building's 438-tonne steel framework was meticulously assembled piece by piece. This Gold A' Design Award-winning project in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category exemplifies outstanding achievement in architectural design, combining breathtaking aesthetics with technical innovation to create an extraordinary visitor experience that harmoniously integrates with its natural surroundings.
