Sketchy Archy Cinema is an innovative interior design project that reimagines the cinematic experience through the lens of architectural sketching, located in a historic entertainment building dating back to 1846. This sophisticated design concept, created by CM Jao and Ken Cheung, transforms the traditional cinema space into an artistic interpretation of the preliminary design process, celebrating the raw beauty of architectural sketches. The cinema's distinctive aesthetic employs a minimalist color palette that mirrors the essence of sketching, featuring carefully curated materials including bronze bead blasting stainless steel, white marble, and black lacquered metal panels. The design's centerpiece is a dramatic whirlpool structure connecting two floors, symbolizing the creative thought process and manifesting as a spiral staircase that links the third and fourth-floor lobbies. The interior's composition deliberately separates lines and curves to emphasize the freestyle nature of sketching, while the thoughtful integration of matt and shiny surfaces creates varying degrees of light reflection that simulate the different shades found in pencil drawings. This Silver A' Design Award-winning project in the Interior Space and Exhibition Design category demonstrates exceptional spatial innovation through its monotone food and beverage area, featuring zigzag-shaped grey tiles and sphere-shaped lighting fixtures that enhance the sketchy aesthetic.
