Sista House Housing
Sista House Housing is an innovative architectural project located in Seoul's Sinsu-dong district, specifically designed to provide safe and comfortable living spaces for young women in their 20s and 30s. This thoughtfully conceived residential complex, completed in February 2020, represents a significant advancement in gender-conscious architecture, featuring a distinctive red brick exterior reminiscent of a protective castle while maintaining a welcoming and cozy interior atmosphere. The five-story structure, spanning 206 square meters of gross floor area, incorporates diverse living arrangements including one-room units, two-room apartments, spaces with private outdoor yards, and units with high ceilings, each carefully designed to accommodate different lifestyle preferences. The building's architectural elements demonstrate exceptional attention to safety and aesthetics, particularly evident in its common staircase design which utilizes rough exposed concrete walls and stone burner floor finishing, emphasizing material authenticity while maintaining functionality. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, showcases innovative solutions to urban housing challenges, particularly in addressing the specific needs of female residents in dense urban environments. Notable features include a sophisticated masonry-layered curtain wall system in the staircase area, which ingeniously balances natural light and ventilation with privacy protection, while the overall design successfully transforms a challenging 131-square-meter plot into a secure, aesthetically pleasing, and functionally diverse living space that sets new standards for gender-conscious urban architecture.
