Shui Cultural Center Cultural Center
Shui Cultural Center Cultural Center is a significant architectural landmark located in Sandu County, Southern Guizhou Province, China, serving as a gateway to the land of the Shui ethnic minority. This contemporary cultural center, which earned the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, masterfully integrates traditional Shui cultural elements with modern architectural principles. The structure spans an impressive 13,808.04 square meters of area surface, with a building surface of 4,223.59 square meters and reaches a maximum height of 23 meters, complemented by a 30-meter tower. The design's distinctive features include three main functional stripes characterized by dramatic pitched roofs that symbolically reference the Shui's mountain pictograms. The building's exterior showcases an innovative combination of fair-faced concrete marked with pine quarterdeck patterns and specially processed copper steel plates that underwent twelve industrial processes to recreate the texture of bronze, a material deeply significant in Shui minority's ancient rituals. The cultural center's design philosophy revolves around transforming traditional Shui ritual elements into a contemporary public space, featuring an open water square that serves as a memorial place. The interior atmosphere is enhanced through colorful transparent glass panels featuring printed Shui characters, creating a contemplative ritual atmosphere through filtered light. This architectural masterpiece successfully bridges ancient cultural elements with modern functionality, incorporating sophisticated research aspects including regional connection to local peak-cluster landform, contemporary public life models of the Shui minority group, and the integration of traditional ritual atmospheres into modern architectural spaces.
