Shot Puts

Shot put is a field event in athletics that involves throwing a heavy spherical object, known as a shot, as far as possible. The shot is made of metal and is typically made of brass, iron, or stainless steel. The weight of the shot varies depending on the gender and age of the athlete, with men typically using a 7.26 kg (16 lb) shot and women using a 4 kg (8.8 lb) shot. The objective of the event is to throw the shot as far as possible within a marked throwing area. The technique used in shot put involves a combination of strength, speed, and balance. The athlete begins by holding the shot close to the neck and shoulder, with the elbow tucked in and the fingers spread wide. The athlete then rotates the body, using the legs to generate power, before releasing the shot at the end of the throwing motion. The throw is measured from the point where the shot lands to the nearest edge of the throwing circle. Shot put has been a part of the Olympic Games since the first modern Olympics in 1896. It is also a popular event in other major athletics competitions, including the World Championships and the Commonwealth Games. Shot put requires a high level of physical fitness and technical skill, and athletes who compete in this event must undergo rigorous training regimes to develop the necessary strength and technique.
