Shkrub House Residential

Shkrub House Residential

Shkrub House Residential is an award-winning architectural masterpiece that harmoniously blends Ukrainian cultural heritage with Japanese design principles, completed in 2019 in the Kyiv region of Ukraine. This 370-square-meter residence stands as a testament to the sophisticated integration of traditional materials and contemporary design sensibilities, featuring distinctive elements such as a traditional thatched roof and textured clay walls that pay homage to Ukrainian architectural heritage. The structure's design philosophy centers on the concept of earth as a fundamental material, manifesting in both structural and aesthetic elements throughout the space. The interior design showcases remarkable attention to detail, incorporating a 6-meter high wall adorned with Trypillian culture artifacts dating back to 2-5 B.C., creating a profound connection to historical context. The second floor accommodates bedrooms featuring unique design elements, including handmade wallpaper, custom ceramic tiles, and tatami-style beds that reflect the Japanese influence. The project, which earned the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional spatial organization, material selection, and cultural sensitivity. The residence's design emerged from a deep understanding of both Ukrainian and Japanese architectural traditions, creating a space that serves both as a functional family home and as an artistic expression of cultural fusion. The house's cocoon-like atmosphere is achieved through the masterful use of traditional construction techniques, particularly evident in the clay walls that were crafted using ancestral artisanal methods typically employed in traditional Ukrainian hut construction.
