Shenzhen Book Mall Bay Area Branch
Shenzhen Book Mall Bay Area Branch is an innovative architectural masterpiece that reimagines the traditional concept of a bookstore by seamlessly integrating urban design, cultural space, and natural landscape. Located in a central urban park setting, this groundbreaking structure employs a sophisticated design philosophy that blurs the boundaries between architecture, city, and nature. The project, which spans a total construction area of 131,147.8 square meters, features a distinctive circular volume rising from the center of a sloping park, creating a harmonious dialogue with surrounding public buildings through its interpretation of the Chinese cultural concept of circle of heaven and earth. The design's most notable feature is its innovative underground construction, with more than 74% of the building area situated below ground level, allowing for the preservation and enhancement of public green space. The structure incorporates advanced passive green building technologies, including suspended elements, elevated sections, and green roofs that significantly reduce energy consumption. The western elevation utilizes curved materials to enhance mechanical properties and create a lightweight aesthetic, while the eastern facade features translucent aluminum panels resembling ocean waves for natural shading. The facility houses multiple functions including a book city, folk museum, commercial spaces, and creative cultural zones, all interconnected through an immersive Qushuiliushang pathway system that creates a fluid, multifaceted public space. This architectural achievement, recognized with a Golden A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates exceptional innovation in spatial design, environmental consciousness, and cultural integration, setting new standards for public cultural spaces in urban environments.
