Shanliang Rice Packaging Design is an innovative agricultural product packaging solution that exemplifies the seamless integration of regional cultural elements with modern design principles. Created in 2014 as part of China's urbanization strategy, this distinctive packaging design employs traditional visual elements to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of China's Northeast region while promoting local agricultural products. The design's cornerstone is its incorporation of the 'eight odds of Northeast,' a local doggerel illustrated through vivid imagery that captures the essence of the region's cultural identity. The packaging utilizes grainy paper material to emphasize natural and organic qualities, while hand-drawn illustrations depict harvest scenes, winnowing processes, and traditional paper cutting art, creating a strong connection to Northeast Chinese culture. A notable feature is the pulp-molded bowl-shaped component, which deliberately mirrors the large bowls commonly used in 1980s China, serving both as a nostalgic symbol and a practical representation of a family meal portion. The design employs a unique dialect-inspired text theme, our place rice, which enhances product approachability and regional authenticity. The project, which garnered a Silver A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category, demonstrates exceptional achievement in combining sustainable materials with cultural storytelling, establishing a core brand concept of good soil, good people, and good rice.
