Shanghai Po Po Restaurant is an innovative interior design project that masterfully reimagines the nostalgic ambiance of 1970s Shanghai, specifically drawing inspiration from the French Concession era and the aesthetic sensibilities portrayed in classic cinema. Located within a commercial mall setting, this 220-square-meter establishment demonstrates a sophisticated fusion of French and Chinese cultural elements through its thoughtfully curated design elements. The restaurant's architectural identity is established through authentic red brick columns and wall treatments, which provide genuine textural qualities that artificial materials cannot replicate. The space planning incorporates both indoor and outdoor seating areas, with a centralized service station strategically positioned for optimal staff efficiency. Notable design features include elegant glass lighting fixtures, metallic booth dividers, and a carefully selected color palette of blackish green and orange that authentically captures the period's essence. The project, completed in 2017 by designer Vincent Chi-wai Chiang and awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, showcases innovative solutions to modern dining space challenges while maintaining historical authenticity.
